UAE Open: Four Titles for Fourth Time for China

ITTF Press Release

In the first three ITTF Pro Tour tournaments of the year, China won all four titles on offer on the final day; in Slovenia, England and Qatar it was a full house and on Saturday 19th February 2011, it was the same again.

China captured all four titles on offer on the concluding day of action at United Arab Emirates Open in Dubai.

WANG Hao clinched the Men's Singles crown beating compatriots WANG Liqin and MA Long to secure the top prize, the former in the semi-finals, the latter in the final. The reigning World champion, it was his first ITTF Pro Tour Men's Singles crown since September 2009 when he won at the China Open in Tianjin.

A first of the year for WANG Hao and a second for DING Ning, the winner in England in January; she won the Women's Singles event beating colleague and top seed, GUO Yan, in the final, having at the penultimate stage accounted for Japan's Ai FUKUHARA.

Defeat for the top seeds in the finals of the singles events but no such problems for the pair occupying that position in the Women's Doubles competition. GUO Yue and LI Xiaoxia secured gold beating Korea's SEOK Ha Jung and YANG Ha Eun in the final.

It was for GUO Yue and LI Xiaoxia a repeat of their success one week earlier in Qatar where they captured gold; whilst for MA Lin and ZHANG Jike, in the Men's Doubles event, it was as reversal of the result six days earlier.

In the final in Qatar they had suffered defeat at the hands of colleagues WANG Liqin and XU Xin, in the final in Dubai they reversed the verdict; a perfect 31st birthday present for MA Lin.
