Polish Open: Boll completes hat-trick
Germanyís Timo Boll, the no.1 seed won the Menís Singles title at the Polish Open in Warsaw on Sunday 30th November 2008 and in so doing completed a hat-trick of consecutive wins on the ITTF Pro Tour.
At the final hurdle he overcame Denmarkís Michael Maze, the no.5 seed; a player against whom Boll has the ideal record in world ranking events; they had met on 16 previous occasions and the German had won all 16 contests.
Including one win in the Grand Finals it was Bollís fifteenth ITTF Pro Tour Menís Singles title, whilst in the counterpart Womenís event for the victor it was her first.
Singaporeís Feng Tianwei, seeded no1, clinched gold recording a close semi-final win over Romaniaís Daniela Dodean and a more convincing final victory against compatriot Wang Yue Gu, the no.2 seed.
Gold for Feng Tianwei in the Womenís Singles but in the Womenís Doubles she had to settle for silver; in a contest between the top two seeded pairings, the no.1 seeds prevailed, with Romaniaís Daniela Dodean and Elizabeta Samara defeating Feng Tianwei and Yu Meng Yu.
Titles for the visitors and there was one title for the host nation.
