Sold my 7 year Viscaria for this one, so I got it free. Control, power, spin, to me everything is doing as fine as Viscaria or better. FL handle is comfy for me and I think Viscaria is a little bit of flat. I got DHS Hurricane 8-80 on the FH and Andro Hexor Power on the BH. Very happy with this setup and my decision to switch to this classic TBS.

The most budget friendly ALC blade from Butterfly. A decent blade capable of making spins, loops, blocks and smashes even in the 40+ ball era. With the right combination of rubbers this blade can compete even with the pro blades. I prefer putting Chinese topsheet hybrid rubbers to make the feeling better.
Awesome but a bit slower than the Timo Boll ALC. It has better dwell time and is softer with better feeling. Topspin machine on both wings when paired with medium to hard tensors like MXP-50 or Donic C2. I haven't tried any Chinese rubbers on the blade but I suspect that they would suit the FH side really well.
Wonderful blade. Really nice for blocking as well as other aspects such as Looping, serving and smashing. I always try changing to different blades but always seem to come back to the Spirit every time
trying the blade, which I purchased second hand, for a week, and must say that I like it. Compare to Ovtcharov Donic 1 senso, weight is more balanced towards to handle and have a great feel of the ball, especially blocking became much easier and more controllable. Paired with Nittaku Sieger on my BH is a great match compared to my previous rubbers. On FH I am trying Victas Triple double extra. Still to early for final judgment, but from the first impresion I am missing tensor feel of the rubber, which would most likely pair very well with the super tacky top sheet. I still prefer Bluegrip C1 on my FH. But lets see, as time goes by, with techique adjujstment I might re-consider my opinion.
TBS might be one of the greatest blade for spinny loop in the era of plastic ball. Problem is it lacks stiffness and support which is necessary for making fast loops. Overall, it is great at generating speed but less great at generating pace.
vispower pp or tb alc, viscaria and spirit. Tb alc the stiffest and glass feeling but allround playing. Vispower the slowest and the flexiest but the most empty and spinny Spirit the heaviest the hardest and slow as vispower. Viscaria the fastest and flexy, medium soft, crispy but less than tb alc

Great blade. I play with donic Bluefire m1 forehand and long pips backhand. Blade has tremendous control for chops and attacking long pips play. Great blade even for defenders.
Wonderful blade. Mine is 93 gr. FH DHS H8 and BH Rasant Beat. Topspin vs backspin on FH, Block and punch with BH quite easy. Speed/control ratio is extremely high. Can not miss any shot :)
Blade Size: 157x150mm. It is heavy, hard and stiff with no flex or vibration making blocking and chopping easy but on the other hand the dwell time is low and the feel of the ball is not great. Tensor/springy rubbers make the feeling worse and the game close to the net difficult. I use hard, heavy, tacky, Chinese rubbers because they increase the feel, control and they force me to improve my technique. Chinese rubbers disrupt the weight balance (becomes head heavy). It feels more balanced when you put Butterfly rubbers on it but is still heavy. Use Yasaka rubbers (Rakza 7 or Mark V HPS) if you want to keep the racket a bit lighter. Timo Boll Alc has more weight in the handle than the Spirit so head heaviness is less of an issue. Spirit is fast even far away from the table, if you have the right technique and physical strength. The flared handle is a bit slim and slippery on the upper part. I have changed rubbers 4-5 times and still no sign of splinters. Solid craftsmanship that can sustain a lot of hardship during training. With slow rubbers it behaves like a perfect all-round blade. With tensor rubbers it can be crazy fast. I would start with hard, slow, easy to control rubbers (like Mercury II) and, if needed, move to faster ones. Only suitable for intermediate and advanced players. Somewhat overrated and definitely overpriced. There are equally good Butterfly blades, like Petr Korbel and the Primorac, or Stiga blades, like Stiga Infinity VPS, at a 3rd of its price
One of the best blades,fast but not to fast,greta fot blocking and counter attack,loops great,short game good but need little bit of practice. Paired best with soft rubbers like T05 FX.
Blade is very nice and performs as expected. it is well suited to close to the table and mid-distance OFF play, but has enough feel for defensive touch shots from anywhere. I have it paired with Tenergy 05 & 05fx which seem to be very well suited for aggressive play.
TBS w/ TO5...heavy for teens, but give good feel and speed. recommended for adult players due to heaviness
the blade has an excellent control when using backspin chop but during topspin and flick shots you should adjust the position of your blade when hitting the ball or else you can't control it but overall it is an excellent blade because of its power when attacking the ball an it is also excellent when looping
Scope: 1400+ Player with Off- style. 1st custom bat (so not much to compare outside of what I was able to use within my club eg. TBZLC, Stradivarius, and some others). Rubber: Tenergy 05-FX
Overall First Impression: Nice size and weight (~90g), very well balanced. Adjusted very easily. I think the balance between Off (Speed, Spin) and Control allows the player to impose their style directly upon the racquet rather than the other way around.
Handle: I have slightly above average hands and thought the TBZLC was more comfortable. I ordered a butterfly grip tape for my TBS...huge difference, much more comfortable, and gave me a better grasp of the paddle (I even liked it better than the TBZLC without the grip tape, so overall I think if you have a normal hand size it should be fine, otherwise a little grip tape made a significant difference)
Speed: Slower than I thought for a a/c blade but again it allows you to control the shot without launching the ball. Don't read this to mean it is slow!, its just not as fast as the ZLC, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (Obviously the rubber you play with will make a difference). Great for close to table and mid distance. Looped well (work in progress so I cannot elaborate)
Spin: Again, just a well balance blade. With average stiffness and a medium hardness, your not going to be below or above par with the racquet alone. It will really depend on the rubber and style of play the one has.

I am used this blade with Tibhar Aurus and Aurus Soft, a deadly combination. I am rating this on every aspect.

I have played for two years with the tbs using tenergy 64 2.1 on the forehand and tenergy 64 1.9 on the backend , and I was able to go from 1400 to 2000 with it. It's a very good blade but I realize that you need a high level of skill and technique to be able to utilize all of its capabilities because of the stiffness. It has a slightly decreased control compared to other blades like the Viscaria , Which I just changed to in order to increase my control . It has an excellent mid-distance away, it's good very far off the table good solid lobs can shop it does everything fairly well which makes it an excellent blade to compare many other blades too. If your person trying to find what blade to start with or to move on to I don't think it would be a bad idea to use the blade everyone compares most other blades to in order to assess their next purchase. The only con of this blade is that I lost a lot of points just barely because the of the my new lack of control that it has compared to the viscaria
for me its overrated blade, but for the most of the players its best choise because of ballance bettwen speed and control ... i had problem with 3rd ball , with tenergy 05, and with tenergy 05 fx .. i played with this blade 1 season with scr 16:4 , but i feeled hendikep , after changing to timo boll t5000 i dint have that problem..
despite being a fast blade, it has great control and feel for slower more controlled loops, it works great with deader rubbers like DHS, one Area timo boll spirit the TBS lacks is long distance rally. if you cant generate your own power, long distance counter loops will be weak. its great for close to the table and mid distance play however. its also great with touch shots like pushes, and dropshot.
the flare is very balance and light, the straight handle can be a bit uncomfortable on the hands. but has the same feel.
unlike other fast blades i think TBS is a great blade to learn with and will stick with you for a long time. i found myself trying other Arylate carbon but always come back to the TBS.

that revelation! after I spent a lot of money on expensive blades ( Liu Shiwen, Barwell Fleet, TB ZLF, etc ) and not helped in any way, I managed to get my hands on a Spirit! Control gorgeous, a bow to topspin like we've never seen ... really great sound, a super blade ! FH 05/BH 64
The TBS spirit is just like the Timo Boll ALC (you can see my review of this blade). My blade was selected be a chinese pro player in France, 85-86gr, perfect balance. This blade is today the best deal from all Butterlfy Arylate carbon blades, cheaper thaan viscaria or TB-ALC, not even Speaking of ZJK-ALC. So just go for it, outer koto is chosen a bit more hard than the outer Koto of Viscaria, so at same weight, the TBS is faster than Viscaria, more power full and a bit more stiff.
Since you can get a blade of same quality as Viscaria or TB-ALC, but just cheaper.......go for the classic TBS if you are a looper and want to try the arylate-carbon feel and power.
Also, if the blade was not used by some many pro players, it would have certainy been removed from BTY catalogue, since its the only Arylate-Carbon blade under 100 euros, generating far less profit per blades than the other arylate-carbon blades (TB-ALC is 130 euros, same for viscaria, and ZJK).

The best racket I have ever used. I have with black metal tag and it's a powerful blade and have a lot of control. I love it so much.

WoW The Best Blade for me, i used Primo allwood Stiga infinity Vps Innerforce tamca5000, this blade is a balance blade, need mid rubbers to backhand and hard rubber in forehand xD
a well built blade as expected. my blade is 86g st, and it is still fast but not too fast. nice feel and touch. it plays bit like all wood blade in the short game but when you push it has burst of power and you can feel the carbon. I think why many people like this blade is you can perform all kind of strokes and does it very well. the blade is known for looping, I think its ok but shockingly I can confirm tibhar stratus power wood is much easier with even higher arc with same rubber test, tspw also plays similar to tbs but it is a touch slow I think very hard to tell. overall tbs is the best blade in my collection of composite blade that I have.
My blade is Timo Ball Spirit with Butterfly Tenergy 64 on FH, and Butterfly Tenergy 25 FX on BH. I use to play with Timo Boll Spirit! Great blade - loved it!
I think that this blade is a very good blade if you are a looper, but also would be good for anything else. Touch shots and short game don't suffer because of the good control of this blade.I use it with T05 and T80, and it's a bomb. I recommend to try it.
I bought it today and just played with it. But wow... What a blade! I'm angry with myself that i hesitated and didn't buy it last year. I play with Tenergy 05 on both sides. I feared if it would be fast with this rubber but no. It is excellent for an all-round attacking player and made for close-to-table and mid-distance play. It has a very very good control and you have no problem with blocking. Looping is very easy. I love top-spinning with it. It is just a dream. A little bit expensive but worth its price.

first of all I reckon it looks pretty pristine. This bat I believe it is great for beginners since it performs every style well so they can chose what path they want to. It performs greatly at any distance for me.

Hi Everyone . I have played only a few hours with it so far but my first impressions are great. The most exciting characteristic of it when you swing its power is growing in exponential way to some extent without losing control.
Very good ,perfect balanced even with heavy tenergy rubbers doesnot feel had heavy.I try some chinese substitutes like t8 wiches probably is the closest clone of TBS and Dawei Wavestone wrb also good blade but with tensors feels so had heavy its just bothers me.So if looking for alc blade by one but good one I know is 133$ but it will last you forever and you will enjoy your game alot.Best wishes to all TT fanatics.
Read a lot of good ratings about this blade and I decided to upgrade to Timo Boll Spirit blade with T-05 FX in the backhand and T-25 FX in the forehand. I was eagerly to play with the 10 years old at my club and lost first three out of five matches. What a blade!!!

I use this blade with Sriver G2 (2.1) FH, and Sriver EL (2.1) BH. It's a great blade for serving, looping and blocking. The build quality is 10/10.

This is the most amazong, most balanced blade I have ever used. Highly recommended for any type of player. All one needs to do is match the right rubbers to it for their game and this blade will become adaptable to anyone. Best for rallying.
Just got this today and love it! This blade is definitely design for topspin players. It is extremely easy to produce powerful topspin with not much effort. The blade is very fast & has good feeling. You have to have well developed strokes though to get the full potential out of it otherwise you'll see little to no speed & spin on the ball. People say its heavy & thick, these are lies its not heavy at all...but it depends on which rubbers you put on it. I have Tenergy 05 on both sides & find it light to medium in weight.

NO WAY ! I can tell you that there are differences between the two, yep ! for sure !!
Let's first look into the plys' construction :-
Koto-ALC-Limba-Kiri-Limba-ALC-Koto
(The Kiri core of the ALC is harder than the TBS)
Basically the materials looked the same for both blades, even the head size & thickness are the same; but when you look closely, you will find that the arylate fiber (The BLUE LINES we see from the side) in the ALC is (1.5mm) while the TBS is (1.7mm)
That's what made the ALC a little faster than the TBS since the ALC had less arylate and more carbon.
Another differnt is that the handle of the ALC is 2mm longer than the TBS, purpose for this is to move the weight balance back towards the handle to increase control.

my control has improved with this blade by 100%, and it works superbly well with the tenergy 05 fx and tenergy 64, it dosent matter about the speed for me as the spin from the loops make it hard for the opponent to return it back to me.
Very nice feel but quite heavy. You have to put 100% effort into every shot with this blade. Used donic copper rubbers but nOt very good combo

Not good for beginners. Large sweet spot. Great for all the strokes but it's strength lies in producing very strong loops and counters. Flared handle needs to be a bit bigger. Straight handle has a square shape, an oval straight would appeal to more players. A great blade by any measure. Update. FL is usually lighter than ST. by 3-4gr. TBS works best with medium to soft rubbers due to koto outer plys. This blade has great balance in the FL version. Used by the womans Mexican champion Yadira Silva and many high level players around the world. Fantastic with T05FX or T64FX. Some say this blade is to slow. Not the case at all as they have poor technique and poor arm/hand speed. Compared to BTY M. Maze has a slightly harder feel upon ball impact and shares the same speed range of medium fast. A Butterfly icon of a blade, upgraded to 10/10
This blade was slightly too slow for me, but it was not so bad I could not use it. The feel is there, but it comes across as damp. In other words, you do get feed back, but the feedback/feel is muffled. I will be picking something else. Right now I am leaning towards the 655 WL from DHS.

The Timo Boll Spirit is exactly the same blade as the Timo Boll Arylate, I mean exactly! But because of Butterfly's marketing and greed the ALC is £20 pounds plus more in price.! Ridiculous.

they are exactly the same blade and even Butterfly will admit this. Both perform exactly the same as they are the same blade, where on earth the above author wrote that the ALC is faster is ridiculous, it seems faster because you want it to be, but in actual fact it cant be, its the same blade, check with Butterfly.
I use the Butterfly ZLC Zylon Carbon Blade with Tenergy 05 on backhand and Tenergy 64 on my forehand, and this is a practise training bat for me, when I play a game I use the Timo Boll Spirit blade with the same set up of rubbers above and this is a slower bat set up, but only just and that gives me my edge when im playing, as I'm used to a slightly faster bat set up so am quicker actually. But the ALC and Spirit are exactly the same blade, no differences, do your research and you will see I'm right, but the Spirit and not the ALC, you will save yourself a lot of money. I hope I have cleared things up for you all and I've really, I mean REALLY researched this.

Both perform exactly the same as they are the same blade, where on earth the above author wrote that the ALC is faster is ridiculous, it seems faster because you want it to be, but in actual fact it cant be, its the same blade, check with Butterfly.
I use the Butterfly ZLC Zylon Carbon Blade with Tenergy 05 on backhand and Tenergy 64 on my forehand, and this is a practise training bat for me, when I play a game I use the Timo Boll Spirit blade with the same set up of rubbers above and this is a slower bat set up, but only just and that gives me my edge when im playing, as I'm used to a slightly faster bat set up so am quicker actually. But the ALC and Spirit are exactly the same blade, no differences, do your research and you will see I'm right, but the Spirit and not the ALC, you will save yourself a lot of money. I hope I have cleared things up for you all and I've really, I mean REALLY researched this.

This blade is best suited to very experienced players if you want to use it for looping. I've been playing for 10 years and I personally found it too fast to loop with as the dwell time is too short.
Butterfly market this blade as having a medium soft feeling, I belive, and being great for spinning, which is why I bought one. It feels hard rather than medium soft and it is difficult to spin the ball unless a fast stroke is played.
The weight of the blade with Butterfly Tenergy 05 1.9 on both sides was also way too heavy for me, over the table flicks were difficult.
In conclusion, I found the blade to be very powerful with too short a dwell time for me to grab the ball and do what I wanted to do, also very heavy with Tenergy.

I have TBS and Michael Maze both with bryce. Timo boll is supirior . Michael Maze has to much speed for less control .
TBS has better feel and less vibration / more stability. TBS has better gear because the kotto outer layerers . Changing gear is changing speeds / changing from deffense to attack which is noticeably easier with TBS . A Blade that can do it all. It can loop, drive, smash, push, and block with ease. I've used many butterfly blades, and this is the blade that can do it all. Enough speed and plenty of control to dominate.
I started playing table tennis since 2007 in my university and started with a regular Stiga for amateurs, later a friend introduced me to a Butterfly Joyner FL which i felt really fast but with little control, i would later purchase a Primorac OFF- which at the time was a perfect blade to learn.. the problem was that it came defective and the handle made playing weird which would lead me to purchase this blade... I believe the Boll Spirit is a good blade for players which like looping specially backhand looping as well as drive, it also has this sense of no vibration at all eventhough it has carbon in it so if you like these qualities i would really recommend it "I like it".
A good blade, I bought it because of other people's feedback and because Timo Boll is my favorite player! At first I couldn't handle much of the power, but i am getting used to it now and can say that has a good sense and no vibration at all which most carbon blade's have.
My blade of choice for the consistency and reliability. Best looping blade with great feel and good speed. Extraordinary control in all aspects of the game, looping, blocking, pushing, and smashing. Most balanced blade I have used.
I can describe tiom boll spirit as PURE POWER!!!!! it is one of the heaviest feeling blades i ever feel. it is soooo good for looping, but you will have to have very proper strokes to use it good.

Suitable for offensive players. Looping, driving and blocking is great. It's a fast blade, but not too fast. Great combo with Tenergy rubbers.
Comparing to the Michael Maze: It's same speed, control, but the TBS is softer feel and more flex. It are just slightly differences.
Price = more than worth! Best classic blade.

This is my first 'real' blade, but it feels terrific. With sriver EL with regular glue, it has fabulous control when I got used to it and I now have enough power to hit winning shots while still being able to chop/control the ball. fabulous feel, not too soft or too hard. nice flared handle. Great blade that can do everything. heavy enough to generate power without sacrificing any control. rather expensive
Along with the Primorac the Spirit is the quintessential Butterfly blade. Large straight handle is very comfy. Flared version feels small. This is a very nice looking blade that is great for allround-offense. Has power reserves for hitting and looping away from table. If Butterfly stops making this one there will be alot of angry people.
It is a very balanced blade with no big bate. I think the blade is perfect for players which want to play loops near at the table and half distance with a good control and moderate fast speed. It assisted a game with a lot of spin.
Power of carbon, the feel of wood and the softness of arylate. Blend all of this together and you get an awesome blade good at everything concerning offensive shots. I disagree with teh_anarchit saying it's a thick blade, he must have picked the wrong blade, TBS are usually around 5.6 and 5.7mm thick, which is really thin, if he said it was thick, I think he'd find clipper unplayable in table tennis! Also, it is one of the most balanced blade in terms of weight, it's light and perfectly balanced. With a nice quality finish, this blade is sure awesome. Anyway, this blade has a lot of dwell time, and combined with the right rubbers, it really shows its full potential, such as tenergy 05, boost tc/ts/tx etc etc... If you want something faster and harder, you may want to try the michael maze blade, and if you want something faster with about the same dwell time (imo), go for the zylon version. If you want something a tad softer with more control and dwell time, go for the galaxy K-4, which is also half the price of the TBS.
Anyway, I don't consider this a beginner blade, until you've mastered all the basic offensive shots with control.

a good blade but it is slow, i like it but would rather want a little faster racket. it has carbon but i never really hear it when i play unless i smash really hard. very consistent however and you can never make a mistake if you hit on 90% of the rubber. more like for control attacker, high quality blade though.

The butterfly timo boll spirit is a fast attacking blade , once you get used to it you can perfom all shots, but you have to give it some time especially in the short game, it is not a blade for beginners but can be really used by everyone else.. once you are used to it is one of the best blades out there although it is pricey. The Short game is ok cause you can flick, push, and chop the ball with ease but the main thing the spirit is good in is the offensive play.
It is very good for looping and has a good dwell time, hitting is also no problem at all.

The composite carbon results in a bit of a "numb" feel without much feedback, but the all-round attacking potential outweigh this.

A very nice blade for the water-glue era. I had little problem switching from a Tibhar Samsonov Alpha to this blade.

The Butterfly Timo Spirit Blade is a classic blade used by the world champ. It is very fast, as it is extremely easy to gain momentum with it. I find it kind of hard to control though.
The blade is really thick and extremely heavy. So this is why its easy to gain momentum, but difficult to control. Its hard to keep your strokes controlled because of the heaviness of the blade, centered on the head.
The build quality is good though, and if you have a wrist and arm muscles, go for it!

This blade is a good blade and very popular. Its a little hard to loop with harder rubbers, but suited with softer or medium rubbers would work fine with this blade. Good for all offensive aspects of any ones game I.E Looping, Counter-Looping, and even gives some good power behind the smashes.

a great blade imo, i have tried it many times and gone back to the Korbel many times, but now after trying it for a third time i have decided to stick with it, its great for looping and driving, also excellent when relooping, its great away from the table and there is not much feedback but there is enough, slightly higher throw than the maze but slightly softer too
Nice blade, light and quite powerful but not out and out quick. Suitable for loopers and blockers. Popular and expensive.
Very very well balanced blade in every aspect. The only thing I didn't like about it is its weight which can vary quite a bit, and also the blade's too thin.
