I have used Nittaku Premium balls for years and I've never seen a bad ball. They bounce very predictably. I think quality control and standards are very high and that's what drives the price up.

If there is another kind of balls that is better than this, they are not available in the market yet. Second to none.
Nice and hard. Consistent bounce. Fairly easy to break though. That's really unfortunate, because I love them otherwise. The only other problem I really run into that they get stolen pretty quickly if you don't pick them up when they go flying.
Nittaku makes the best ball, it bounces better that the other ones I've tried concintency is better. Overall the quality of them is far better. You need to try them out so you can see what you are really missing.
Expensive but well worth it in my Humble Opinion

I play with top veteran players, a few world champions, and when they choose a ball they are very picky. They come from the old days of the celluloid balls, that were quicker and smaller, than these plastic ones. When they spin a plastic ball on the table now and look at it they seldom look happy, but when I say I got a Nittaku its like Oh! Well we take that then and they often dont even care to check it. The white Nittaku Premium 40+ Polyball is just right.
Not great quality for the price. The DHS 3 star balls that I had lasted longer than these. DHS has the same bounce and play quality but more durability.
This ball has a seam! It is two piece and when it lands on or near the seam the ball will off-bounce. It possesses a lot of grip when brand new. The ball is spiny and will come back into the net or back over the net on some serves. I prefer the KINGNIK ball 40+ ball to this one.
Best plastic ball on the market. The ball is supposed to weigh 2.7g (according to ITTF) and it does. Extremely consistent and round. You get what you pay for. If you want a cheaper option try Nittaku 2 star plastic ball - it's almost identical except with slightly larger variations in weight.
Weight: 2.7 +/- 0.02g (ITTF requires: 2.67-2.77g).

broke the first ball in 2 min of play, haven't broke one since. Nice ball, but it should be for the price.
Miles beyond any other 40+ ball out there at the moment. Very consistent trajectory and bounce. Behaves like a celluloid ball in terms of feel and reaction off your racket, although with noticeably less spin. Speed feels the same as celluloid, maybe even faster sometimes.
I actually prefer this ball to the celluloid 40mm, only because it's easier to counter-loop, predict ball flight, and control the ball in extended rallies. I've played with mine a ton, and only a few broke after many hours of play, or if caught on exposed wooden edge of blade during a mis-hit.
Difficult to come by and very expensive when you are able to find. This is pretty much the only 40+ ball I play matches with. Distant 2nd place is the seamless XuShaofa 40+.

Best tt Ball I've tried rarely uneven, bouncy, hard and lasted very long (until I smashed it alot during training XD) if ur willing to spend then it's the best ball you'll get
Best ball. Most enjoyable. Not most spinny but most enjoyable. Great hardness. Best bounce. Great durability. Good spin.
Very durable. Have been using just one of these for games and the logo is almost gone from the ball but it still works amazing
Tried these after playing with the 3 star Stiga balls and the difference is night and day. Much more consistent spin and bounce. The texture of the ball does pick up stains easily, so make sure your playing surface (table/ground) is clean.
Updated !!! It's a mystery to me why my review of this ball has received two thumbs down over the last 3 years. The mere fact that this ball is used in many international tournaments seems to me to be confirmation of my personal assessment!!! Since the first season in which plastic balls were allowed in Germany, we have been playing with this ball in our club. Despite constant tests of other balls, Im still of the opinion, that no ball is better and has more durability !!! ... grip and roundness are also in the upper range! - so it doesn't really matter, that he's the most expensive.
Sometimes the ball does not bounce to the way you would expected. It stops going forward and you would miss the ball. Not sure if it is related to roundness or the uniform of hardness or both. This is based on the comparison with Joola, Butterfly, Xushaofa and DHS balls.
This ball is expensive but it is the official ball of all USATT tournaments here in the state of Florida. It takes some getting used to but if you are serious about competing you better get used to it!
This ball marks up quickly, does not stay bright and starts off as more of a matte finish than its predecessor the Nittaku premium cellulose ball. Maybe 40+ orange balls some day will correct this. Nice ball, but could be more visible. As far as the ITTF goes, you can have the men who make the laws. ....Thanks to regmonta for great reviews here and elsewhere.
still the closest to a real ball. they can charge a price for familiarity, and they do.
As of Apr 6, 2017, this ball is still the best of class. It's heavier than most other brands but extremely consistent and fairly durable. I just wish it wasn't so ridiculously expensive!
Of the polyballs, I've played with Gambler,XSF, Kingnik, Butterfly poly and G40 poly, Yinhe, and this ball. This is by far the favorite for me. It spins nicely on loop unlike the G40, speed is good, and it is extremely durable. It also doesn't seem to dent or warp over time like some other poly balls (XSF, Yinhe). I have 100s of hours on my Amicus robot with these balls, and I have broken two by stepping on them perfectly. Usually they just shoot out from under my foot unharmed. Great ball!
For sure the best balls on the market. I tried a lot of the new plastic balls and these ones are particularly compact, have weight, and good feeling.
Highly recommend!

Nittaku 3 star premium 40+ is the best of the best. Bought a 6 pack for the at work table and the only time we lost a ball is when someone stepped on one. Very long lasting.
The best poly ball out there. Closest to celluloid balls in terms of playability, somewhat heavier though. These I've found to be more durable than their celluloid counterpart. I had to break few myself after playing with each one of them for more than 2 weeks (5-6 times a week for 1 hour each day) thinking that they might have lost grip from playing for so long and I was afraid of inconsistencies during matchplay.
Very durable and consistent ball. I have only used 3 since purchasing this 12 pack about 4 months ago.
Best polyball, only one that is worth its price even if that price is a bit expensive. Long lasting as long as you don't step on it.
This is the only good quality polyball out there. If you're looking at the price thinking "wow 3$ a ball is too much" and decide to buy something else. You'll quickly find out you spent more on the other ball. in a dozen of any other polyball, you'll find 20-50% of them aren't round and are unplayable. So you end up spending the price of a dozen for potentially 6 balls.
These are also extremely durable, I know club members who have gone a full year on one ball.

the ball is fast but just too fragile..... I lose a ball per week just from hitting on the table, I will stick to Xushofa which last for weeks, bounce consistent, and are cheaper, the slight loss of speed doesn't bother a club player like me
Best poly. It has the right feeling, weight, roundness, speed, hardness, it lasts a good time... it's a joy to play with it. Update: After training with several other polys, Nittaku is the king of perfect balls. Even the cracked ones are good to play! Best there is.
Great ball, insane price. 3 dollars a ball, it better be good. The quality does show when your playing. Strong bounce, great speed and control. Its durability is great also, I warm up by hitting against a concrete block wall.
Only Poly ball I have played with that feels plays and sounds almost identical to the old style balls.
Play the best. Very durable. It turns out to be less expensive than Nittaku 2-star training balls because the 3-star last 3-4 times longer than the 2-star counter part. Will try XuShaoFa 3-star next but will definitely avoid Nittaku 2-star training balls.
I bought 2 dozens of this poly ball. Unbelievablly, not very durable, it is so easy to break. not a good quality ball. I wouldn't buy Nittaku ball any more.
we bought this for my son for Christmas, but it has turned into a family gift. We all really enjoy taking turns practicing with the robot and the bundle with the net and balls was a great deal. The entire family is already getting much better and we have had some great games against each other after everyone takes turn practicing with the IPONG.
Good bounce, just like celluloid. Very sturdy ball. Nice 'roundness' to it.
Fun to play with. Best poly ball I've played with so far. Outstanding ball has awesome grip, texture, and roundness. The 3 Star Nittaku 40+ Premium "Made In Japan" ball is a super nice ball. Tried numerous poly balls and this one stands out as the best. Also, the orange version 3 Star Nittaku 40+ Nexcel "Made in Japan" ball is awesome and a little easier to see (especially for seniors). Give them a try and you won't be disappointed.
The previous reviews say exactly what I've been saying as well. The Nittaku 40+ Premium is by far better than the rest. Switching from this ball to any other plastic ball is like night and day.
Stufro's comment about the others floating like marshmallows is the same thing I say...except I say that they float like beach balls;) The N40+P has weight, grip and predictability. I really hope the other manufacturers take note of this ball and change their design to be more similar.

Try this and you won't think about playing with any other balls. I used to play with killerspin 4- star and DHS 3- star, but Nittaku is the one. The best I have ever used. You won't regret buying this.
Best polyball there is. When i play with it, it bounces like an amazing celluloid ball.
They play well when they are fresh out of the package. After some sets, they become really smooth and they often "break out" while playing a topspin.
Hey, if you do not love Nittaku 3-Star balls, you either cheap or just weird.
Because each boxes 2 out of three balls are bad. It doesn’t last long.
Please next time keep an eye..

I might have just received a bad patch of 3. Where the ball seam is it protrudes. Without looking I am able to find the seam by feeling with my finger tips 100% of the time. It effects the bounce on the table and probably off the paddle, (haven't seen if it wobbles yet). For such an expensive ball I'm disappointed. Compared to my celluloid balls and cheap pack of 100 (3 star) balls their seam does not protrude and I can't find it with my eyes closed. I can provide pictures/video as proof.
Megaspin Edit: We were surprised as these came from Nittaku. Customers was refunded.

I'm just your basic novice player, 6 to 10 of us play on a regular basis either in a basement or garage. We been doing this for about 3 years now and have tried a hand full of balls, this by far is the best. Pricey but man the action you get from these is Incredible . The reason for 4 stars is they seem to get slick or shiny and start to loose some of its grip. As of now we won't purchase anything else.
I have tried several different new plastic balls. Yinhe, xushaofa, joola, double fish, dhs, giant Dragon, and gambler. Prior to using this ball gambler was the standout for me. After using Nittaku premium 40+ it is the definitive winner. The others float like marshmallows in comparison. Super expensive yes, however you get what you pay for. I still like gambler as a not too far distant 2nd and for the price it's a great ball. But if you want the best you need to pay for it with the Nittaku premium 40+ made in Japan.
