I have been playing ping pong for a while now and have observed something which I don't understand. Why once you have your opponent 10+ feet back from the table don't people simply hit a short ball which is extremely easy and basically 100% guaranteed to get you the point instead of slamming right back to the opponent. Also when you have your opponent's entire body to one side of the table why not hit a short, sidespinned ball to the opposite site; also basically garunteeing the point.
