FAQ: Does Megaspin sell Japan-made Butterfly blades?

Some Butterfly blades like Korbel and Grubba are produced in factories both in Europe and in Japan, so they exist in 2 variants. When a Japanese blade has a Europe-made version, we always carry the Japanese variant. Other blades like Butterfly Timo Boll Offensive are only made in China so we cannot carry a Japanese variant of these blades.

FAQ: Do Butterfly blades come pre-sealed?

All Butterfly blades come pre-sealed from the factory. There is no need to add blade sealing but you may if you require additional protection.

Still a legendary blade. Not many composite blade can compare with it. High performance looping and heavy spin oriented player will benefit most.

My favourite blade for the past 8 years. This blade does it all for me. Excellent feel and touch. This blade is fast. Faster then you might think and read from here and this shows in the control sometimes. If you can control the blade this is an absolute beast and worth the money it costs. However im not that very advanced player or that pro player to fully get the max out of this blade which sometimes results in loss of control. I have to hold back on powerfull shots. But thats just sometimes and most of the time i can do it all. Its a great joy to play with this blade cause you feel every ball you hit and get excellent feedback from it. Id recommend this blade to any allround to offensive player out there!

It was my dream blade and it came to me as a Christmas present. Otherwise I wouldn't have given these money. I think the biggest disadvantage is the price.
I have been training regularly with it for the last 3 months.
- Very balanced.
- The ball feeling is too good. It provides more control and more contact time than many carbon boards I have used.
- Absolutely in harmony with Tenergy 05. Together it becomes an effective weapon.
- There is no distance problem. It responds very positively at close, medium or long distances.
- Spins are effective. It goes at a speed close to smashes.
I gave an order these days to try cheaper replicas of this product. I will share my comments for them as well.
Timo Boll ALC is by far the top blade I've played so far. I would definitely recommend if you have the money.

I just own a cpen TM ALC. Great blade. Easy to loop. FH: Donic M1 Bluefire. BH: ACUDA s2
Just sand the edges of the wings and add badminton grip tape ( thin ).For intermediate players. Great topspins.

A very good solid blade, mine weights only 82gr. Very easy to control and it has power when you need it. It's very controllable near the table (good blocks, chops, flicks) and has enough power to play from second and the third zone. The best blade for me so far.

Very Stiff blade, less flexy and has very little dwell time. Not good for Chinese rubbers, use ESN and Butterfly rubbers instead. It has a very comfortable handle.

My second favorite blade. When you loop on this you will produce a spin out of this world. It has a pretty good control too! It has the best build quality I've seen and it is better than almost all of the blade. Also when combined with EL-S on backhand and bluestorm z3 on forehand It was out of this world. I recommend this to everyone.

One of the best blade for counter topspin. However as it is very stiff, you have to accelerate faster to rub against the ball instead of punching through. Also, make sure you do it with a smaller stroke and stay close to the table to maximize its strengths. It doesn't pair well with Chinese tacky rubber, just go for butterfly or ESN rubbers

After using Andro for more than a year and a half, I decided to move to one of Butterfly's blades for the upcoming year. Out of all the options, The Timo Boll ALC caught my eye the most out of all the options. You cannot go wrong when people tell you that this is one of the best blades out there. The speed, the spin, the control are very balanced and this blade is an absolute monster if your technique is on point.

It is a fast blade which is very effective at medium/far table range where you get the most value for shots. At close range, the blade is good for flicks and both FH/BH Top spin loops from backspin. This blade is not meant for beginners/intermediate players and I would recommend anyone with good technique to go for it. I use Tenergy 05 on my FH and 05 FX on my BH for much more feel/control on blocks and loops from my BH. Definitely would recommend to any advanced level player who is looking at an upgrade.

I have to say the TB ALC is by far the best bat I’ve ever owned. I love my Viscaria, but found the handle a bit uncomfortable. If you’re deciding between these two great bats, I highly recommend hitting some balls with each, maybe using a friend’s, before buying. I had T05 1.9 mm on my Viscaria, but opted for 2.1 mm T05 on my forehand and 2.1mm Dignics 80 on the backhand. The simplest way to describe this setup is “effortless” power, a counter top spin machine! I found the video review with Dan & Timo Boll to be true. The quality of all my attacking shots has improved, but to my surprise, I’ve gained control! Also, I was most concerned that my short game would suffer, but no, I have more touch! I make less errors when pushing and my opponents make more! Surprisingly, I think some of that is the thicker sponge, and I really like the Dignics 80. I feel it gives me more control and feel- especially on backhand flicks and pushes. Note, this rubber also performs well on the forehand, maybe even more spin and speed than 05 based on feedback from my mates. I do like the softer sponge of 05 for close to the table looping though - more dwell. In summary, this bat has unlocked new levels of play for me and I plan on using it for years to come. It’s a blast to play with! I highly recommend it to players once they start counter looping, but feel under horse powered against faster bats.

First of all, it was a nice experience dealing with Megaspin. They were very efficient. Being a Primorac blade fan and user, i was bit skeptical but TB ALC is a very comfortable blade. I have the anatomical handle, beautifully crafted, great feeling and easy adaptability. Tenergy80 on FH and Xiom Vega Europe on bh. Execellent balance, easy top spins, blocks, chops, counter attacks. Everything comes together. Of course a good stroke and footwork helps. I used this setup to play in the ittf veterans tour and landed a couple of shining metals.

First I need to say that I do not use this blade as my primary setup. I still prefer the Innerforce Layer ALC because I'm still improving my technic and it provides me more control and feeling. However I use this blade in some training sessions and I do not completely agree in the speed ratings given here. I have it paired with T05 on FH and T80 on BH. I really love it on FH for everything, even pushes, however I have some difficulties to get proper top spins on FH, specially near the table. Maybe it's my technic that it's not good enough. I'll keep it, because I believe will be my primary blade in near future once I improve my game. Just to finalise I think people tend to underrate BTY products because they are expensive than other brands, this blade is faster than other blades rated on this site with better score.

This is fantastic padle to the table tennis player who knows basics of all the strokes in table tennis . you need not intermediate or higher level players. Because i have been playing table teenis for the past 8 months only. I bought this padle last week and i have been playing with is padle comfortably with speed, spin and control. Its fantastic blade for every one. Intialy my friends wrongly guided me about this padle as it was not easy to control. Actually i missed this paddle for eight months. And i can give 10 out of 10 Pont's to this amazing padle.

Originally, I did not want to write a review on this blade, because I know that my blade is a bit "different" !!! It weighs only 81 grams, is slightly softer and slower than the average T. Boll ALC blade.
Ultimately, however, I have decided to do so that "my readers" can better understand my reviews.
When I tested this blade for the first time at a dealer (about 3 years ago), I found it too fast and too heavy.
What I already noticed, however, was that the control for such a fast blade was uncanny (or incomparably high).
When my (favorite) dealer offered me this 81g blade, I could not say no.
I played that blade for a year and was able to really improve my game.
- On the forehand side I play a Joola Rhyzm tech with 2 mm and on my back hand side, a 61 Second Eagle with 38 degree sponge in the same thickness.
Fantastic !!!! Safety and sufficient speed with excellent spin.
Update 08/ 2021 - I have found a blade that is very similar to this one and costs considerably less! Read my review: https://revspin.net/blade/no-brand-lemuria-lin-alc.html

Nice blade, but sorry to say, it's over price blade.

This blade is fantastic! You can do anything with it. It is a bit faster than normal but still not too fast that you miss out on control. I have tried some extremely fast blades in the past but i find they just bounce off to quick. This is a good combination of control and speed. I also find that it is very easy to loop and topspin with blade and they usually have quite heavy spin. The blade is also fantastic for blocking because it has decent speed and can shoot it off the bat but still has the control, so you can place it where you want. Serves are fantastic with this blade as i really feel like i can rip the ball with it. The sweet spot is pretty good as well except for the top of the bat where i find it a little less consistent. I think the only downside to this blade is the price. I think it is way overpriced compared to other blades but to be honest i still do not mind as it will last a fair few years if you treat it properly. Overall this is a fantastic blade and if it is good enough for Timo than it is good enough for me.

Wow! What can I say? I tried a Timo Boll ALC in FL handle from a buddy of mine and it was an amazing experience. The blade is stiff (not much feedback) but surprisingly has a good deal of dwell to generate great spin. Close to the table it is slow and has control. Far away the carbon kicks in and gives you a few extra gears. I could do everything with it. Looping was amazing. Blocking was crisp and accurate. Its an all round attacking blade and I instantly fell in love with it. I can now see why a lot of top players recommend/ use it. It is perfectly balanced blade~ 85+ grams. Butterfly engineers definately got this blade right. It is a tad faster than the spirit. I'm definately going to buy one for myself. This one will go down in history as one of the all time great blades. Not for beginners, due to lack of feedback. My advice to young players below 1800+ Develop your strokes on an all wood blade for 2 years and then switch to this blade.

The Blade is perfect for me, in my opinion. No flex, and very sturdy... and noticably lighter than my other Butterfly paddle. My father has his own set of Butterfly ping pong paddles, and he was very surprised at the quality of this blade.

What a wonderful discovery for me! I am an allround - offensive player, who like to play short and attack mostly with my FH when I have the first opportunity, trying to prepare my final stroke after a couple of spinny top-spins.
I was using a Donic Waldner Legend Carbon, it was good too, but for me too "hard", sometimes I had the feeling the ball was running so fast from my blade and had some issues in controlling it. I decided then to purchase a Timo Boll ALC, with a Tibhar Evolution MX-P on FH and a Tibhar Evolution EL-S on BH. Incredible feeling. I lost very little in terms of speed, but still very fast for me but what impressed me more is the feeling of the ball I have. It seems to me that I can touch it with my hand. Control is absolutely not an issue now, of course I still make mistakes but the confidence in me grows a lot with this blade and the rubbers. Some colleagues told me that now my top spins are sometimes really spinny and difficult to control, I feel also that the arc and the consistency of them is improving. I am totally satisfied, and if there will be any changes in the future I will update the review.

I tried so many rackets, as my level gets better, a good racket makes a big difference. I tried this racket last year and I was not in control at all, as my level improved, this was the only one available to be delivered from Amazon before a local tournament and I decided to try it again and it was the best decision ever! That is a quick racket, but not in a crazy way. I gpt the proline, Butterfly put a Tenergy 05 on both sides, so the rubber gives you more spin & control while the racket gives you speed for a perfect combination. The ball doesn't bounce away from close range, but it also excels when you're far from the table as well. With a large sweet spot, no matter where you hit the ball from, it always ends up on the table! Everyone at my club who tried it was able to get good results with it, unlike many rackets that require special game play. If you know what you're doing you'll easily get great results with this one, but if you are not too good with spin or you hit only flat balls this racket will be too quick for you

Review helpful?    Yes | No

very good blade, that has a great speed with a very swayed control. with this blade the topspins are beautiful, with the ALC TB you can have an
offensive game where you can control the game. but I recommend this blade with a semi hard rubber to have good control and at the same time to good aggressive tospins, since the ALC helps to absorb the impact for which one gives you time to scrape the ball.

Best blade for spin oriented attacks. Good feedback. Going down as a classic.

This was my first carbon blade after playing on 5-ply wood (Nittaku Acoustic, Ma Lin Extra Offensive). First big differences I noticed were large and uniform sweet spot and reduced vibrations. I play H3 on forehand and T64 backhand. My forehand was faster and more linear off the paddle, and I liked the harder and more direct feeling paired with H3. Backhand was much faster and a little harder to control at first. Had to close up more for looping, but mid distance backhand loop was very easy. I feel this blade packs a lot more power than the wood blades, especially paired with tenergy, but it is not too fast or crazy. Very nice and comfortable to play with.

I have got this blade for quite a short time but I can say it is absolutely great. It has a lot of speed while keeping so much control. My topspins which went 5-10 cm over the table with different bats (also with slower ones) are now easily on table with the same speed and spin. Highly recommended for offensive play!
Review helpful?    Yes | No

After 2 years of using this blade, i have never felt like i have had to change it; it is perfect for me. Not too fast and not too slow, but the thing which i like the most about it which i haven't seen in another non-carbon blade is the solid feel you get of it. with other blades, i dislike the hollow feel were you can feel the bat almost vibrate on the other side. I don't know if this is because of the carbon, but i like it.
Review helpful?    Yes | No

My favorite table tennis blade so far! But I just got the Garaydia zlc from japan.its very good frim smashing and 50cm away from the table. Its a perfect match with tenergy 05 on both sides because Timo Boll uses that. So you wont exactly play like Timo but you still get the feeling of being like him. I use the AN handle, its very good for me because the top has a curve and its comfortable for long dwell time! So you got money and you want to find a very good blade with good control and power then go for it the Timo Boll alc is your best choice. Oh and if you'd like a cheaper blade Primorac is good for fast ball and power and control, this counts as offensive plays but spin in primorac is not good but smash your a beast.
Review helpful?    Yes | No

it suffices to say the entire blade is one large, beautiful, very consistent -and not so reasonably priced- sweet spot. TBALC is a complete murderer. No wonder Timo Boll himself plays with this. Not reccommended however for intermediate or advanced players that are still developing technique, since it provides no vibration feedback compared to an all wood 5 ply blade of it's speed range (take Xiom Off S or Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Off). Even A thick 7 ply all wood like say andro CS7 Vel (Off+ as fast or even faster than this) provides better feedback when playing short or middle distance game .TB ALC is quite fast and not so easy to control due to the feedback issue I just described. However for Elite and pro players this is the blade to buy. Worth every penny if you can afford it.

Really like this blade, but have recently switched to the Freitas ALC as it is a touch more spinny and a bit more controlling because of its softer topsheet. This may have a bit more speed than the Freitas.

Fantastic blade. Very well executed ALC with Koto top blade. Great quality control as usual from Butterfly. Very similar to TB Spirit, just a slightly less head heavy balance. Similar to Viscaria as well. Other than handle shape and graphics there is very little difference between TB ALCs, Viscarias and TB Spirits. Two TB ALCs are probably as different from each other as a random TB ALC and random Viscaria.

I find unjustified. This wood has an amazing control! It's a super blade! Have been tested more than 20 blades. This is the best blade that I have played for me ( Variable offensive play ). Have previously the Butterfly Innerforce Layer ZLC played. It was not bad, but the Timo Boll ALC I find it much evenly balanced forming and soulful.

I changed to this blade from Tibhar Stratus Samsonov Carbon (http://www.tabletennisdb.com/blade/tibhar-stratus-samsonov-carbon.html) and i have been playing for a month with it. I think its a good blade because you have a very good control and awesome speed on fast strikes, the Alc give it a good control close to the table and on mid distance game with a real strong speed. Actually im playing with Palio Legend 3, i changed from it because of it was for me maybe too speedy.

Good fast Carbon blade. Like how it plays from mid distance and also in the block. Like some other wrote it had a good balance. Not the best control in the short game, had some problems getting short returns in the beginning but felt better after some small adjustment. A good blade overall but nothing spectacular.

The Blade i suse in ST handle. My ALC was selected by a friend, a chinese that now play in the French Pro A (he was superleague player). Amzing speed, perfect balance, big sweet spot. Currently using T64 on BH and the new Giant Dragon "storm soft" in FH selected by the same chinese player, simply amazing. Selected my also a boll spirit ST and a Viscaria Light FL. My TB-ALC is 86-87gr.

Also, an advice from this great player : Don't use water based glue, the Koto outer ply will become more and soft, making the blade softer feel and slower......

I use it with 729-2 on forehand and a calibra lt spin on backhand and it is really comfortable for an allround-offensive player. Specially for the ones who aim for heavy spinny shots rather than fast smashes.

bought this, and change it from my tbzlf, it seems to be a little bouncier, and more stiff, put 2 t05 in it, and i had been adjusting about 1 week. it´s a little faster than my tbzlf with 80 and 64 with less feeling, but with more power, specially in topspins. i´ll cointinue to adjust, and i hope this well be my definitive blade. greetings all... mine is 84gr as my tbzlf...

This is a very good blade. I was think different before one year when I replace Schlager Carbon OFF+ (95 gr weight) with Timo Boll ALC (85 gr weight). If you are put on them some Tensor rubbers such as Xiom Vega Pro or Andro Rasant or Andro Rasant Turbo as me then you will see absolutely difference in your game with full power, also and good control at the same time.

Went looking for a TBS and ended up with this ALC from Japan in a ST handle. After using the ZLC this was a huge disappointment. I had heard some much about it. Handle was for too small for my normal sized hands. Played with it using 2 T05s and it played OK. Tried with with T64FX and T05FX and didn't like it feeling that they was too much flex. One I had only weighted 84 grams and I doubt very much if it is anything like the one the Timo Boll currently plays with which is supposedly much heavier at 93 grams. On balance I would probably say that it's a safe choice but it didn't light my fire.

I'm an intermediate player, and I had a chance to play with different blades throughout my skill build up for 2 years now, the best balanced blade that helped me to improve my skill was the BTY TM ALC, but it toke me a while to control it and to know how to make the best of the blade that suits my style. definitely ALC is not for beginners, it's very fast, blade spin can varies based on the rubber you use, but when you find the wright set up for the blade and fits your style, WOW its a BEAST!!. I've tested ALC with (DHS H3 Neo, Acuda S2 & S3) but the best set up I have and still use is (T05 forehand & T64 fx backhand).

Very Good Blade I must say. Especially wit Tenergy 05- FX.
Very lightweight. Sacrifices NO SPPED. Arylate carbon is strong yet very delicate. Colour of the blade handle runs after sometime.

I got this blade yesterday and wow it felt great my shots had more spin and power behind them and i like that when looping and playing powerful spin shots the arylate carbon comes into play but when you smash and chop it feels like a wood blade best combination of speed, control and feel. My blade weight was about 90 grams but it didn't feel so bad. If you have the money buy this blade you won't recred it. I use this with xiom omega iv pro on the both sides

best blade ever, combining carbon with a natural feeling when playing.

Well balanced blade. It is for the player who desire control and consistency from his blade, but does not demand any speed that is ancillary to what is generated from the rubber.

This was my first blade and has served me well at developing a technique that rarely misses the mark. A great blade for looping from any distance and which doesn't add too much "pop" in short game.

I would recommend this to anyone.

It`s a great blade very fast with a little control. I think it´s need a good tecnique to play with this blade...... But if you have this tecnique its a awesome choice!!!!

I have played with a couple of different blades before like Mizutani Jun, Schalger Carbon etc. I just did not like the feeling of JM with Tenergy64 on both sides. The blade was too fast not doubt but hard, little flex and too little control. I did not like the feeling of Schlager as well. Hence I decided to give the ALC a try based on good reviews from the forum. Boy, this blade rocks !!. The soft feeling is amazing with great control and dwell time. Speed and Spin is more than enough. I am playing with H3 on FH and Tenergy64 on BH. I love this set up and it doesnt feel very head heavy at all. My blade weighed about 87gms when I ordered it. If you use lighter rubbers am sure you can get moer out of this blade. Its a keeper for me for sometime.

Timo Boll ALC is the only Shakehand Composite blade I would play with as my main weapon!

-Good control
-Little vibration
-Fast enough (for me)

I've tried many composite blades in the past, TB ALC is the best one so far.

Very Dwelly + Soft Feel + Not much vibration - These qualities make this blade amazing for loop topspin and counter topspin . Works amazing w/ any Tenergy 05 like rubbers (Hexer, Genius etc) . Highly Recommended for any topspin loopers !

Very good blade in control for soft touches and flicks over-table like a 5-ply. With enough power and speed for loop drive, close to a 7-ply. Best match with Japanese or European tensor-like rubbers for a control attacker. Don't seem to go well with Chinese rubber.

My weapon of choice. The handle is a little small for my liking but it plays awesome with tenergy, has great feeling, and has perfect weight balance. Works better with harder/heavier rubbers than tbs for that reason (although tbs has more dwell). Recommended for allround attackers.

Very good blade in combination with Hexer Max on FH and BH.

good control, good speed, use with rubber Roundell 2.1, good shot, a topspin of many turns. excellent.

It's a fast blade though not as fast as zlc it is still rather fast,
currently using tenergy 25 bothsides, it's speed, spin and control is very good alot faster than i expected. I chose the alc blade because it has arylate carbon wich has a high throw angle, but i also wanted good rubbers like tenergy 25 this rubber has a low throw angle so by putting them together you can have both great spin, speed and a normal throw angle. Great for the all out attack player who is looking for consistency and control. sorry if i'm boring you out. LOL

Very precise for middle range, very good handle and less vibrations.
I've used the Sriver G3FX, the Tenergy 05 and the Xiom Vega Europe. All of them working as expected.
So, now the only explanation for bad return is lack of practice.

this blade is very good,i used tenergy 05 on both sides 2.1 thick,it's very good, though heavy, its good for looping n smashing.

Nice looping blade overall. Good speed, touch, control and spin. Also, it's very stable. I'm gonna play with this blade for quite a while.

fast, heavy and pricy but well worth it. Awesome design as well

I've recently bought my Timo Boll ALC FL. It weights 92 gr.
First impressions: very fast, maybe a little slower than my Primo Carbon. Dwelly, easy to control.
I will post a very big review in a few days.

This is a good blade, but the reason for a low overall rating is because of the fact that this blade is essentially identical to the Timo Boll Spirit Blade, which is much cheaper. Even qualified butterfly distributors could not explain the difference between the spirit and ALC models.
