Good points Eric. And of course very true gcollins - we are rarely able to take full advantage of LP's at our level.... Of course another big advantage of LPs is serve return. Having inverted sticky/tacky rubbers is great for spinny serves and loops, but when it comes to serve returns, the inverted rubber grips the spinning ball sending it to the net (if returning a heavy backspin serve) or letting the ball jump over the net high (if returning a heavy topsin serve). Using LP means the ball 'roll's' off the rubber more. Therefore the difference between returning a topsin or backspin serve becomes less ie the ball will go a bit higher with a topsin or a bit lower with backspin - and therefore it becomes much easier to return spinny serves, sending much of the spin back to the server. This makes LPs is especially usefull if you find reading serves difficult, as your margin for error increases. |
