Yea, deception is my middle name anyway. I'm actually a backhand server and my basemant opponents curse me when I mix the serves up too much. Most of them don't pick up on the difference between top, back or no spins. But then again, some of them don't even pick up whether it was a clockwise or counterCW sidespin, so that doesn't necessarilly mean anything about the quality of my deception ;) I haven't been using FH serve too much, 'cause I only had one serve available so far on that wing. This corkscrew thing changes that. And I have discovered that I don't have to lift the handle up anymore. I can get a similar spin by just using a scooping wrist movement and hitting the ball somewhat later than usual and at a slightly different angle. That ought to help with the deception. Now, if I could only get it consistantly - and legally - over the net and on the table ;) |
