Morocco Hasan II Open: Top Seeds Secure Gold in Morocco

Top seeds in both the Men’s and Women’s Singles events at the Morocco Hasan II Open in Rabat, the latest stop on the ITTF Pro Tour, emerged as champions on Monday 26th July 2010.

Defending champion, 34 year old Vladimir SAMSONOV of Belarus, retained his Men’s Singles crown beating Adrien MATTENET of France in the semi-finals and Belgium’s Jean-Michel SAIVE in the final; whilst in the Women’s Singles event it was success for a player half his age.

In an all Japanese final, 17 year old Kasumi ISHIKAWA beat compatriot, Reiko HIURA to clinch the top prize. However, she is not the youngest ever ITTF Pro Tour singles winner; that distinction belongs to China’s GUO Yue. She won in Japan in 2003, when 15 years old.

It was for Vladimir SAMSONOV the 21st Men’s Singles title of his career on the ITTF Pro Tour; for Kasumi ISHIKAWA it was her first.

Success in the Women’s Singles event for Kasumi ISHIKAWA and also in the Women’s Doubles competition, where she partnered her Women’s Singles final victim, Reiko HIURA, to gold.

The pair beat Sweden’s Matilda EKHOLM and Spain’s Sara RAMIREZ to claim the top step of the medal podium.

Titles for Asia and Europe and also for Africa; in an all Egyptian Men’s Doubles final, Omar ASSAR and El-Sayed LASHIN defeated Mohamed EL-BEIALI and Mohamed Tarek EL-SOBKY to clinch gold.
