Croatian Open: First Title For Hao Shuai

ITTF Press Release

China’s Guo Yue retained her Women’s Singles title at the Croatian Open in Zagreb on Saturday 20th January 2007 beating colleague, Wang Nan, at final hurdle. However, Vladimir Samsonov, who had won the Men’s Singles crown twelve months earlier, failed in his bid to arrest the title for a second consecutive year.

Guo Yue won 11-6, 11-9, 2-11, 11-13, 11-7, 8-11, 11-4 whilst the margin of victory for Hao Shuai was 11-7, 11-7, 10-12, 9-13, 13-11, 12-10.

It was Guo Yue’s fourth Women’s Singles title at an open international tournament on the ITTF Pro Tour whilst for Hao Shuai it was his Men’s Singles crown.

The victories of Guo Yue and Hao Shuai meant that all four titles on offer went to China.

Earlier in the afternoon the pairing of Chen Qing and Li Xiaoxia won the Women’s Doubles title beating the combination of Russia’s Oksana Fadeeva and Veronika Pavlovich in the final whilst Ma Lin and Wang Hao defeated the Koreans Cho Eon Rae and Lee Jung Woo.

It was a Women’s Doubles title at the first attempt for Chen Qing and Li Xiaoxia whilst for Ma Lin and Wang Hao it was the fifth time they had won as a partnership on the ITTF Pro Tour.

In the final of the Women’s Doubles’ event Chen Qing and Li Xiaoxia won 11-6, 6-11, 13-11, 11-13, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6 whilst Ma Lin and Wang Hao prevailed with a greater degree of comfort. They won 11-3, 13-11, 11-7, 14-12.

The year 2006 ended with China winning all four titles on offer at the Volkswagen Pro Tour Grand Finals in Hong Kong; the year 2007 has started in the same vein, at the Croatian Open they had a full house.
